The Crucible was a two day facilitated workshop held in Bristol in May 2024, aimed at anyone wanting to apply for our scoping study grants.

Over two days participants developed project ideas, met potential partners and improved grant writing skills. The event was an opportunity for nascent teams, or expert or early career potential collaborators to share their ideas and work on proposals and included grant-writing coaching from panel members.

“The two days were excellent and a good use of time to meet people and put together a proposal. Loved the venue and very well organised.”

“Many thanks for organising this, I have been able to meet some great people to work with in the future.”

“Made loads of connections for future projects.”

The 2024 Scoping Study Grant call released £600,000 for projects that supported our mission of getting the agri-food sector to net zero. A key element of the scoping projects was that they involve meaningful collaboration with food system stakeholders, and work across disciplines. The Crucible provided a vital opportunity to make contacts and connections across disciplines and organisations to enable the development of such projects.
